Novellix & the art of translating

  • 54 Apelbergsgatan Stockholm, Stockholms län, 111 37 Sweden (map)

May is upon us and the days are getting longer and sunnier. What a joy. In the same spirit we are spending our next session together with Novellix and litterature translator Erik MacQueen exploring his translation of D.H Lawrence's novel "Sun". The art of translating a novel from one language into another is a balance act of nuances and word choices - and is an art in itself.

Novellix's latest publications are five short stories by our most important Brittish authors – Katherine Mansfield, Charles Dickens, Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Brontë and D.H Lawrence, all translated by the best translators Sweden has to offer. D.H. Lawrence wrote the novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" in 1928 and created a great scandal for it's erotic content and depictions of female sexuality. In the short story "Sun" that Erik Macqueen now translated for Novellix, D.H Lawrence continues to portray female sexuality and its complexity. Ticket release on May 12th at 11 am.

*This session will be in Swedish
